So Long Tom DeLay

Now that Tom DeLay has decided not to run for re-election, the Democratic party is probably out celebrating and getting high. Miss Daisy probably had a wet dream about this day back many times over the last 12 years. But even he must give "the Hammer" his due. Tom DeLay was certainly one of the most effective whips and House leaders in recent memory, if not ever. His ability to cajole or intimidate votes out of his fellow congressmen is legendary, and over the years he has exterminated the liberal's agenda and ideas like so many Texan bugs.

Only after ten years of attacks could Democrats unseat him as majority leader through the loathsome prosectutor Robbie Earle, combined with counting on Congressional Republicans perennial habit of abandoning one of their own. And even with the scandals precipitated by the underhanded dealings of Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon - DeLay still had a shot at victory in November, since he was only culpable by being on both mens' resumes, not by any actual wrongdoing. By bowing out of his seat now, DeLay guarantees a fresh GOP face will take his Sugarland, TX seat - and he will hopefully take his name out of the news cycle leading up to November.

Still, this video is completely filled with irony, and gives a sense of schaudenfraude for some. Check it out!
