Drug Turf Wars... in Ibiza????

The Daily Telegraph has a scary report on the British drug turf wars that are raging in Ibiza. Ever since I spent five days and four nights there back in 2002, I have had a special love for that place and will soon return. Unless of course, this drug thing gets worse.

These shootings are REALLY bad for Ibiza. That wonderful island, while attracting women so gorgeous that you have to adjust the scale (Lindsay Lohan would register a 5 out of 10 there), doesn't have the experience with violence that party spots like South Beach and Atlanta have. Hell, the music scene in Ibiza is 99% techno, which means there is no culture of being used to violence or even watching your back. In other words, most of the guys are wimps and aren't goign to stick it out. Add to that the fact that Ibiza is expensive as hell, with club covers starting at $40 and accomodation rates that will give anyone a nosebleed. There are plenty of other options in Europe for young nubile partiers who want to lie naked on the beach during the day and writhe their hot sweaty drugged-up bodies on the dancefloor at night. There is no reason to stick around if Ibiza and the UK don't handle this crime problem soon.

I say let Pfizer and GSK sell ecstacy in the farmacias and call it a day.
