The KGB (FSB) is out murdering people again...
Unfortunately, it would appear for the time being that they failed to kill dissident Colonel Alexander Litvinenko. He is a man who has openly claimed that the FSB was behind the 1999 Moscow apartment bombings (not the Chechnyans) and now the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Claiming is one thing though, but it's an entirely different matter when you provide evidence and the names of the people who carried out these attacks. The fact that he actually worked for the FSB/KGB for much of his career lends enough credibility for most in government circles. No wonder Putin wants him dead. Looks like thallium didn't do the trick for the time being, but I'm sure he'll be whacked at some point unless he leaves the UK for good.

I can only wonder what this will mean for US/UK vs Russian relations. The sucky thing about all of this is that it will hurt consumers the most in Europe and the US. The fall of the Soviet Union blessed us with new access to oil and natural gas, largely untapped. If Putin tightens the noose, we'll all pay in the form of less commerce and higher prices.

It won't change anything. The Soviets killed Ukrainians by the bushel during World War II, and the only countries who protested were Germany and Italy.
Russia's support of Iran is more likely to poison her relationship with the West than a few killings.
