Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) is PRO-Slavery

Ghetto pass - revoked.

How appropriate that this news hits the Washington Post only days after the death of Milton Friedman, one of the 15 heroes of the Nixon Commission on an All-Volunteer [Military] Force that killed the draft in 1969. Milton Friedman, in an exchange with General William Westmoreland, head of the military forces fighting in Vietnam, had this to say about the draft.

In his testimony before the commission, Mr. Westmoreland said he did not want to command an army of mercenaries. Mr. Friedman interrupted, "General, would you rather command an army of slaves?" Mr. Westmoreland replied, "I don't like to hear our patriotic draftees referred to as slaves." Mr. Friedman then retorted, "I don't like to hear our patriotic volunteers referred to as mercenaries. If they are mercenaries, then I, sir, am a mercenary professor, and you, sir, are a mercenary general; we are served by mercenary physicians, we use a mercenary lawyer, and we get our meat from a mercenary butcher."

The draft is slavery, pure and simple. Rangel claims he is only interested because maybe the draft will force Congressmen to think twice about supporting wars that may kill their sheltered kids. That reasoning is garbage. Days after 9/11, enrollments in the Armed Forces were at an all time high. Given a compelling reason, Americans will volunteer to fight and die. Getting attacked is a compelling reason. And the only good one in my opinion. There were conscripts in World War I, Korea, and Vietnam - rhetoric aside, the USA was not in danger during these military adventures.

Thinking that children of VIPs will be protected is naive. Even Pat Tillman had to beg to be enlisted as a grunt; no one in the military with any political sense is interested in killing talented people and VIPs. And no General is going to let the kid of one of the Congressman who votes on his budget get murdered on the front line. It's called self-interest. Besides, the point of the draft is to supplement the professional volunteer forces, or in layman's terms - be cannon fodder. If a draft is coming, anyone in their right mind will volunteer (or leave the country, join the church, magically become retarded, etc.) - just like President George W. Bush signed up for the Texas Air National Guard and avoided leaving the country, much less fighting and dying. Even in the Civil War, where everybody was fighting, both the Union and the Confederacy allowed people to hire substitutes to go in their place. Until politicians start leading their own divisions on the battlefield from the front like in antiquity, a draft isn't going to add the children of the rich and connected to any war monuments.

America spoke in a loud voice that they want the US out of Iraq (and everywhere else). Now the Democrats, the peace guys, want to force everyone 18-42 to go? If you make a person work or kill against their will, it is slavery. How can a black man in America support that?
